Surya Namaskar is considered to be a personality development tool and is included as part of wellness program.



Surya namaskar is very beneficial to keep your health up to date by performing simple set of asanas. This asanas are refreshing and instant rejuvenating.



Known variously as Surya Namskar or Sun Salutation, the Surya Namaskar is one of the best exercises that people can perform. The benefits accruing from these exercises are inimitable and exceptional. This is a yoga based exercise.



Properly performed Surya Namaskar collisions and authorizes all five sheaths – the body, the breath, the

Mind , the bliss and the intellect –  providing  performers the benefits for the Sthula (Gross), Sukshma (subtle) and Kaarana (Causal) sharir /bodies. Whereas conservative exercises of all forms including  aerobic, weight lifting, walking, jogging and running are designed to provide benefits to the physical body and Surya Namaskar provides benefits of a holistic nature by working on the physical body, praana (breathing), mind, intellect and the bliss components (or kosas) of the entire human personality.


The Surya Namaskar is performed usually early in the morning facing the morning rising Sun.

The Namskar is done in 12 steps, each step having its own posture (including position and form) with its own breathing pattern (inhalation or exhalation), and its own mantra.



The mantras chanted while performing the Namaskar generate minute vibrations in the body which helps and corrects functioning of all systems of glands in the body. The whole Namaskar process tones up the functioning of all systems in the body like sensory, respiratory,circulatory, digestive and nervous systems. And the result is  Balanced state of mind and concentration and wide memory powers .



The mantras are chanted in the following manner:

Om  Mitraya Namaha (Mitra - friend)

Om Ravaye Namaha (Ravi - radiance)

Om  Suryaya Namaha (Surya – dispeller of darkness)

Om  Bhanave Namaha (Bhanu – Shining with luster)

 Om Khagaya Namaha (Khaga – all pervading)

 Om Pooshne Namaha (Pushan – mystic fire which gives)

Om Hiranyagarbhaya Namaha (hiranyagarbha – golden colored)

 Om  Marichaye Namaha (Marichi – Ray of light)

Om  Adityaya Namaha (Aditya – Sun,aspect of Vishnu, Son of Aditi)

Om  Savitre Namaha (Savitru – Light of enlightenment)

 Om  Arkaya Namaha (Arkah – a ray of light, a flash of lightning, Sun)

Om Bhaskaraya Namaha (Bhaskara –Shining Light)

2) Santosh --- It is an overall mental satisfaction of a Sadhak.

3) Tapa ---  It is a faithful devotion towards the work.

4) Swadhyaya --- It means keeping in touch with all previous studies by regular practice.

5) Ishwar Pranidhan --- It means total surrender to the Supreme Power.

In Ashtang Yoga "YAMA" AND "NIYAMA" are very essential and are fundamental foundation for the sadhak.

There are five aspects of Yama :........


















1) Satya -- Means Truth

2) Ahimsa -- Means Non- Killing

3) Asteya -- Means not stealing of wealth,thoughts,literature etc.

4) Aparigraha --- It is non compilation of essential commodities more then requirement.

5) Brahmacharya -- Means strict celebecial observation by speech,thoughts,sense and deeds.
